Hunterston A Nuclear Power Station I L W Store Assessment

The current generic design for the Hunterston A Power Station, Intermediate Level Waste Store is currently under review by Magnox Electric plc.

SWA were appointed to undertake an assessment of the store to consider various alternative structural configurations for extreme environmental conditions.

Mathematical representative models of the store where prepared and analysed using ANSYS 5.4 and utilising UK enveloped ground response spectra for a Design Basis Earthquake of 0.25g.

A subsequent design assessment was undertaken to consider static and seismic loading conditions for the various models in order to evaluate and compare the performance of the structural arrangements and to provide recommendations for the optimum configuration.
