Dounreay New Facilities - Siting Option Studies

SWA have been commissioned by UKAEA Dounreay to prepare a comprehensive study report to identify a number of siting location options for two planned new facilities on the site as follows:

• Dounreay Vitrification Plant Product Store
• Dounreay Waste Treatment Plant and Store

The task entails collection of all relative information and data from a number of on site sources, interviewing various plant operations management and evaluating the interactions between the existing and planned new facilities.

Having identified a number of available locations on the site, the study will identify the benefits and problems of each particular siting location.

Criteria have been developed to allow an objective review by an Option Assessment Workshop, tasked with reviewing the study report and providing recommendations for the final location, taking account of optimum flask /container movement operations, location and diversion of services, integration with existing and planned new facilities, access restrictions, road diversions, security, environmental considerations, geotechnical/geological issues and comparative economics.
