Seismic Qualification of Equipment - DML
SWA were employed by James Scott to provide services relating to the specified seismic qualification requirements for equipment to be supplied to Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Seismic Qualification is achieved by providing adequate evidence by earthquake simulation testing, analysis or examination of historical performance data that the plant can satisfactorily withstand a seismic event of a given magnitude and maintain the specified safety functional requirements during and/or after the seismic event.
Procedures were prepared to demonstrate how qualification would be achieved for each generic type of plant item in the scope of supply. In this project equipment under consideration was emergency generation plant, transformers, switch gear, control panels and cabling. Generally mechanical plant was to be assessed to ensure that its performance in the seismic event would not compromise the safe operation of essential electrical systems.
