B212 Continued Operational Safety Report BNF plc Sellafield
SWA were commissioned by BNF plc to prepare a Design Assessment Report for the B212 Facility safety related structures, constructed in the 1950's. The assessment comprising of seismic analysis and structural integrity assessment was undertaken to confirm compliance with the safety functional requirements as determined by the B212 COSR Safety Case Engineering Schedule for the B212 Main Building, for normal operating, fault and external hazard conditions.
The report defines the structural stability systems for the main building and associated structures such as the LA duct, monitoring sumps and sump houses, the penthouses and control rooms, which are all supported by the building, and fulfil all the necessary safety functional requirements. Details of the structures were obtained from original construction drawings supplemented by site surveys where required. Building Maintenance Reports have been reviewed, in-cell video recordings viewed and further surveys undertaken in order to establish the condition of the structure and any consequent implications on safety.
The Design Assessment report confirmed adequate integrity of the building for ongoing operational function and provided recommendations with respect to future inspections and maintenance and identified areas of minor non-compliance.
