B212 CEP Travelling Decommissioning Module - Sellafield
This project involved the design of a shielded rail mounted travelling module containing remote handling equipment capable of local demolition of existing structures. This would allow access for the removal of Caesium 137 contaminated waste located in a building on top of the existing storage cells at Sellafield.
The module is a steel framed, multi-storey structure with shielded reinforced concrete floors together with HVAC and electrical equipment. The whole module is seismically designed. The module is designed to be erected and dismantled in-situ. Extensive design has been successfully completed satisfying the exacting requirements generated by HAZOP meetings and NII requirements.
The project also involved forming breech holes and permanent lobbies at three locations on the existing structure. The basis of this module and its mode of operation was conceived by SWA and showed considerable economies from the original intent principles.
